Chapter 8

Manu smelled the hunters the moment he climbed from the limo. His fangs dropped down as a low growl came from his throat. He nodded to his brothers Kali and Akir.

“Watch yourself. Hunters are here.” Both men nodded and reached into their coats for their guns. Manu grabbed his as well. Hunters were nasty business. And they were also standing between Manu and his anamchara.

“Kali, call for reinforcements. Let Luca know we’ve run into a group of hunters.”

“On it.”

While Kali got on his cell phone, Manu waved Akir to the front of Seth’s shop. They took up positions on either side of the large window at the front. Manu peeked around the corner but couldn’t see any movement.

“Azizi, I’m at the front of the store,” he said through their bond. “Where are you?” Manu started to grow concerned when his anamchara didn’t answer. “Azizi? Answer me.”

Still nothing.

Manu waved his hand at his brother, indicating that they would rush the door and split up as soon as they got inside. Akir nodded. Manu drew in a calming breath and tried to push the fear for Azizi’s safety away then moved into action.

He wasn’t surprised to find the place trashed when he went inside. Hunters were not known for their subtlety. Chairs were knocked over and papers strewn around the room. The place was a wreck.

It was also empty.

Manu waved his brother on then slowly crept along the wall to the back of the building. He remembered where Seth’s office was from previous visits with Luca, and that was where Azizi said he was located. That was exactly where Manu was headed.

Manu stopped outside of Seth’s door and peered around the edge of the doorframe. The room was empty. He quickly scanned the room, frowning when he noticed the bookshelf out of place.

Fear was like a fist in Manu’s chest. Why was the office empty? Had the hunters gotten into Seth’s office? Had they gotten to Azizi? Where was his anamchara?

“Azizi!” Manu snapped through their bond. “Where are you?”

Manu groaned silently and dropped his head back against the wall when he received no reply. He didn’t understand why Azizi wasn’t answering him unless the hunters had used some sort of dart on him like the ones that had been used on Rowan when he was kidnapped. They interfered with the telepathic bond between mates.

Manu gripped his gun tighter and swung around the edge of the doorway, sprinting into Seth’s office. He prayed that Seth was okay, too, or Rowan would have his balls in a vise. But he needed Azizi to be okay more than he needed air.

The small doorway in the wall behind the bookcase drew his attention like a moth to a flame. Manu prayed that Seth and Azizi had used it to escape.

As Manu stepped through the small doorway, he smelled blood— Azizi’s blood. He growled low in his throat and readied himself for battle. He was going to kill whoever had shed his anamchara’s blood.

Manu paused right inside the small doorway, confused by what he found.
